Current Projects – In Progress

Texas Buffalo Soldiers Heritage Trail Project

The Texas Buffalo Soldiers Heritage Trail Program is still working and I am currently re-scheduling meetings with TPWD, THC and other Program Partners. I will forward more information as it becomes available.

Texas Buffalo Soldiers Program Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

The Texas Buffalo Soldiers Program MOU with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) and the Texas Historical Commission (THC) has gone very well, pretty much, business as usual. As we continue our work with all the Fort Sites, our mission remains the same “to serve in their memory by preserving places of conscience and places of commemoration.” The first annual Report was submitted to TPWD and THC in July and all transfer related business was completed and our partnerships with the Sites continue with no issues.

23, August, 2010

I have the honor to present an update on the Department of Texas, Texas Buffalo Soldiers Regiment and Operations. This is one of a series of communiqués to bring the Regiment and other partners current with future strategies, operations and after-actions reports.

I would first like to apologize for the delay in getting this information out. Secondly, I want to thank those who assisted in executing the Governors Inaugural program. We have received word that everyone enjoyed the program and were glad to see our presentations. After action procedures are currently under way but, if you have any questions please feel free to call David or myself.

Purchasing is still running a bit behind so I apologize a head of time for any delays you may see.  As you all may know, there is budget crisis that our state faces. During this time of uncertainty we, must slow down on purchasing and sponsorships as we prepare to adjust to any budget cuts.

The Buffalo Soldier program will still conduct its annual workshop at Lake Brownwood SP May 5 with the school day and open house following on the 6th and 7th of May. We need you all to attend. If you are not able to attend please send a representative of your organization. David and I are employing new methods of interpretation and programs at this work shop such as archery and fishing that we would like to update you with. It is critical that someone from each organization attend the workshop for proper training and updates to not only program but agency policy and procedures. This year’s workshop will directly affect how much we’re able to do with an organization for the year to follow.

If you have any questions or concerns please, do not hesitate to contact David or myself. I want to thank you all for everything that you do for this program and more importantly the legacy of the buffalo soldiers and Texas.
